It was founded by the Danish businessman Rene Rechtman
Moonbug Entertainment, a children's video content company, has been out of business for three years, and on Thursday the company was sold to two former Disney executives and the private equity fund Blackstone, which is building a large media group.
The price is 19 billion Danish kroner, or 3 billion dollars, according to statements by René Recktmann to the economic media company Finans.
Biggest sale for a startup
According to Børsen, this deal is the largest startup sale in Danish history.
Moonbug specializes in publishing children's video content on YouTube. The content has also been sold to platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Chinese Tencent. In addition, the company has developed a number of series, the most famous of which is "Cocomelon," which garners more than three billion views per month on YouTube.
This is not the founder's first business deal.
This deal is not the first time René Recktmann has sold a company he founded; he has previously succeeded in building companies from scratch in the media industry and then selling them.
Prior to Moonbug, Rickettman was in charge of Maker Studios, which was sold in 2014 to Disney for approximately five billion Danish kroner.
