Denmark is among the European countries least accepting of refugees, commented the Minister for Immigration and Integration.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Immigration and Integration, Denmark remains at the bottom of the list of asylum seekers received by the various EU countries (based on the method of calculating proportionally to the population), according to the 2022 statement that the ministry has just published.
Going back about 10 years, Denmark was for several years among the top ten EU countries that received the highest number of asylum seekers per capita. In 2014, Denmark ranked fifth, its highest ranking ever, while new statistics for 2022 show that Denmark is now in nineteenth place.
Comment by the Danish Minister for Immigration and Integration
Minister for Foreigners and Integration Kar Dipvad Bec stated in a press release:
“I am pleased that Denmark remains at the top of the list (of countries with the lowest asylum rates). It is good that we have a relatively low influx of asylum seekers, because it means that integration efforts can proceed more effectively. But we must not sit back and think that is all right.”.
Looking beyond Denmark's borders, the situation is entirely different. Last year, over 950,000 people applied for asylum in the European Union. This is the highest number since the 2015-2016 migration crisis. Austria—a country with a population of just under 9 million—received over 100,000 asylum applications last year. These are staggering figures that show we have no control over the influx; it is unsustainable.
At the same time, the current asylum system is deeply inhumane and leads to thousands drowning in the Mediterranean, while human traffickers amass fortunes. A new system is needed that ensures refugees reach Europe in a controlled manner, such as through quotas. This would allow us to better assist more refugees while simultaneously gaining greater control over the number of people arriving in Europe and Denmark. The Danish government is working diligently to achieve this ambition, which is my primary objective as minister.“.
