The first was organized by the Danish People's Movement (Det Danske Folk), a right-wing populist movement, while anti-racism groups organized a counter-demonstration under the slogan "No to re-immigration - a demonstration against racism.".

The first demonstration began at 2:00 PM in Kongens Nytorf Square, before moving towards Christiansborg Palace Square. The counter-demonstrators carried signs rejecting what they call the policy of returning migrants to their countries of origin, known in Denmark as "remigration.".

Police set up barriers between the two groups around Kongens Nytorf Square, then separated them again near Hobro Blades Square. TV2 reported that officers used their vehicles to form a barrier preventing direct confrontation, amid a tense atmosphere and an exchange of insults, including terms like "Nazis" and "fascists.".

The demonstrations did not witness any direct clashes at the beginning, but the police intervened later during disturbances that accompanied the dispersal of the gatherings.

Demonstration organizers: We want to express our love for Denmark

Cyrus Razavi, spokesman for the Danish People's Movement, told TV 2 Kosmopol that the demonstration aimed to end what he considered a years-long monopoly of the streets by the political left and Islamists.

He emphasized that the movement aims to unite Danes under the Danish national flag, describing the demonstration as "a love letter to Denmark." He added that the movement opposes Nazism, Communism, Marxism, and Islamism.

The movement had sparked controversy last September after groups wearing black clothing and masks appeared at a previous demonstration, and some participants performed Nazi salutes. In response, Razavi told Danish broadcaster DR that organizers would not allow groups wearing uniforms or military-style clothing, whether solid colors or camouflage patterns.

The organizers of the demonstration also reported that the truck intended for the march had been vandalized, with its tires punctured and PU foam sprayed inside its exhaust pipe. The movement posted photos of the damage on its Facebook page, along with a message affirming that it would not back down from its planned events. The Berlingske newspaper reported that the same truck had been used at the front of a movement demonstration in September.

Participants justify their position with concerns related to identity and security.

TV2 quoted participant Freya Dalgaard, who was on a year off from school, as saying that she participated in defense of Danish and European values, and that she believes what she called Islamism threatens these values in Denmark and Europe. She also spoke of feeling increasingly unsafe in secondary schools.

The demonstration also included people of Iranian origin, among them production manager Peter Maniche, who described himself as a nationalist. He told the channel that they had fled Islam because of religious persecution and that they wanted to, as he put it, alert Danes to what they saw happening in society.

The participants rejected being labeled as racists, although the organizers of the counter-demonstration accused the movement of adopting racist positions because of its support for the policy of returning immigrants.

Counter-demonstration: Rejecting racism and defending diversity

Per Møller Jacobsen, an IT consultant, participated in the counter-demonstration after traveling from Herning to Copenhagen. He told TV2 that participating was important to resist racism and show that many people stand with their colleagues and neighbors from other countries.

The participants raised banners bearing the slogan «No to racists in our country,» while the organizing or supporting bodies included the Copenhagen Diversity Initiative (København for Mangfoldighed), the Racism-Free City Initiative (Racismefri By), and the Joint Initiative Against Racism and Discrimination (Fællesinitiativet mod Racisme og Diskrimination).

TV2 reported that the supporting entities also included Mino Danmark, the 3F Copenhagen union, the University of Copenhagen Student Council, and the Enhedslisten party.

Police arrest eight people

Copenhagen police announced the arrest of eight people in connection with the demonstrations, according to what Deputy Police Inspector Jakob Hansen told the Ritzau news agency.

Three arrests took place before the start of the main demonstration, with police arresting two people after a dispute between members of the two camps, and a third person for refusing to give his name.

According to Hansen, police arrested five more people around 5 p.m. near Hobro Blades Square, as the demonstrations were drawing to a close.

He explained that small groups, during the dispersal of the gatherings, began attempting to conceal their identities and engaging in confrontations with others, prompting police intervention and the use of batons. The official did not specify the detailed reasons for the arrest of the five individuals at the time, emphasizing that it was premature to discuss specific charges against the eight detainees.

Police later announced that the demonstrations had ended and traffic had returned to normal.

The movement announces its intention to establish a political party.

Cyrus Razavi, spokesman for the Danish People's Movement, announced that the movement has decided to establish a new political party called "Family of Denmark" (Familien Danmark).

The announcement came in an interview with Radio 4 IIII, which was published on Instagram. Razavi explained that the next step is to prepare the party's political program.
