The Danish Social Democratic Party held its annual meeting on Saturday and Sunday in the city of Aalborg. Frederiksen linked this to her government's stance on immigration and crime, saying that large-scale immigration had made Danish society "more insecure and more anxious." She also mentioned plans to toughen penalties for serious crimes committed by foreigners, saying: "So today, I also extend a direct greeting to some of you. To you, the modern man, who cannot imagine hitting his children. Who cannot imagine forcing his daughter to wear a headscarf, or interfering in any other way in her choice of partner. To you, the Muslim living in Denmark, who can never imagine sympathizing with terrorist organizations or with the implementation of Sharia law. To you, the 18-year-old from a minority ethnic background, who dreams of becoming a police officer." How tired you are of imams who, over time, have become even more reactionary than the rhetoric we hear in many mosques in the Middle East. And how tired you are of young people who, in addition to the culture of dominance present in Denmark, practice\/carry the very culture from which your own families fled. Reject it, participate, engage, and show that you are the majority. To that girl who turns her back on the reactionary forces, we stand with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The other part of her speech, concerning immigration and crime, stated: \u00abLarge-scale immigration has made our society more insecure and more uneasy.\u00bb She made this statement in the context of discussing the government\u2019s proposal to toughen penalties for serious crimes committed by foreigners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Frederiksen declares clearly: I want a fourth term<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n But the most significant political message of the meeting was Frederiksen's more decisive than ever in settling the debate about her political future. She announced to party members that she intends to continue her work during the current parliamentary term, and also in the next term should the Social Democrats regain the voters' trust to lead the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She stated clearly, "If you agree to this, I will stay," later confirming to the press that she had no other intention and wanted to put an end to the persistent rumors about her potential departure from the party leadership. Frederiksen thus signaled her willingness to serve a fourth term as Prime Minister should the party win again and form a government. At the same meeting there was an even bigger surprise this morning, as the party formally agreed to appoint Holbeck Mayor Kristina Kriuziak-Hansen as deputy party leader, succeeding Marie Sterkke, who left politics after losing the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Hansen had been serving as acting leader since June and ran unopposed, so the vote was a formality but significant for the party leadership. The current party leadership includes, in addition to Frederiksen, vice presidents Kristina Kriuziak Hansen and Mogens Jensen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Social Democrats stick to hardline immigration line<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Frederiksen's speech also carried a clear message that the party does not intend to abandon one of its key policy positions, namely immigration policy. She emphasized that the party will maintain its firm stance, while the Social Democrats maintain that recent years have seen a decrease in the influx of asylum seekers, an increase in the return of rejected applicants, and stricter rules for deporting foreigners convicted of crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The party officially confirms that four out of five key proposals it put forward in its 2018 immigration policy have been implemented or partially implemented, and it continues to push for the creation of reception centers for asylum seekers outside Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thus, at the party meeting, Frederiksen attempted to convey two messages: reassuring her political base that she remains committed and ready to lead the party in the upcoming elections, while simultaneously emphasizing the continuation of the Social Democrats' political line on immigration and security.
