The directorate published in the statement that the vaccines' ability to stop infection is "zero" for Danes aged 45 and over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because older people have a weaker immune system than younger people, the vaccine is often less effective in the elderly population, while the effect appears to be significantly higher for younger population groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Flu vaccines are 71% effective for children aged 2-6 years, and 43% effective for people aged 7-44 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The dominant flu variant for this season is H3N2, a type of influenza A. H3N2 tends to mutate and change constantly, making it difficult to plan what components a flu vaccine should contain this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vaccine's effectiveness is also reduced because this year the infection came long after the start of the flu vaccination in October, as the season usually begins in December and early January, but this year the infection first appeared in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a result, many residents will be susceptible to influenza infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eleven deaths from influenza have been recorded so far during the current flu season, and the peak has not yet been reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1.7 million people have been vaccinated<\/strong> The vaccination rate is particularly high among residents of nursing homes aged 65 to 81, while the rate is low among both health workers and younger target groups. The vaccine is offered to healthcare professionals in the country, to the population over 64 and a number of people in particularly vulnerable groups.
