Danish police opened fire in the suburb of Copenhagen on Thursday morning after the driver of a stolen and wanted truck tried to run over two of their officers on Taastrup Hovedgade Street, before fleeing the scene. Police are continuing their search for him in the area.
The chase began after the vehicle was spotted.
West Copenhagen Police (Københavns Vestegns Politi) reported a short while ago that the incident occurred around 10:00 AM on Thursday, when the driver of a stolen and wanted transport truck attempted to run over two police officers while they were on Taastrup Hovedgade Street.
Police explained that their officers had begun pursuing the vehicle before the accident, with the chase taking place along Roskildevej Road and Taastrup Hovedgade Street.
The driver fled after the vehicle crashed.
Police stated that the vehicle was later involved in an accident, but the driver managed to get out and escape on foot.
Police added that the suspect was wearing a white shirt when he fled, and confirmed that the search for him is still ongoing in the area adjacent to the scene of the incident.
The police announced that they had informed the Independent Police Complaints Authority (Den Uafhængige Politiklagemyndighed) of the incident, as notifying this authority is a standard procedure in cases where police officers use their firearms while performing their duties.
Police have not yet announced the arrest of the suspect or any injuries resulting from the shooting, while search and investigation operations continue to uncover the circumstances of the incident, according to information received up to the time of writing this report.
